Ayee caramba, who knew? "Los Changuitos Feos" came
to play for us. Their awesom concert lasted an hour and included
some singing as well as dancing. This organization has been existence
for 39 years. The musicians (ages 12 to 18) do not get paid,
but all proceeds are put into a scholarship fund and when the
musicians go to college they get supported based upon the number
of years they have participated.
The organization was started by a priest when he decided the
orphans he was responsible for had too much time and energy on
their hands. So he got instruments and told them to learn to
play so they could perform. In desparation one time he called
them ugly little monkeys, and the name stuck. They were far from
ugly, and performed to the delight of all that attended.
